THE HOTEL BELVEDERE, Built 1917

We at the Roseville Historical Society are passionate protectors of Roseville History. We have been the official keepers of Roseville history since 1983 and as such, feel a strong sense of urgency when we see yet another local landmark on the chopping block. The Belvedere Hotel, a fixture in our community since 1917 has served as an apartment building, hotel, and private family home is currently destined to be demolished. This is a cherished building by generations of Roseville residents!

Four families have owned the building and experienced the unique lifestyle that living in a bustling business provides. The registry of guests now housed in perpetuity at the Roseville Historical Society shows us a cross section of those people visiting our town, each guest with a unique story to be shared, often helping to build Roseville as many worked with the Railroads, helping to put us on the map in 1906. The guests each must have enjoyed the one hotel in Roseville boasting hot water in every room!

This building has taken care of three Roseville families, provided a safe respite for weary guests of all types and helps us to share our local history with anyone visiting our historic district. There are no other similar culturally significant hotels like it in our town. The loss would be a significant blow to our community.

We had been working on an exhibit to showcase the features of the Historic Building, wonderful people behind the door and the local history housed within for the past year, due to be opened May 8. Unfortunately, due to the events surrounding this global Pandemic, our opening was cancelled and the exhibit has been postponed. We had hoped this would help us to showcase the important cultural history the building has to share and start a movement within our supporters, but now we recognize that even though we were unable to have a formal exhibit, the time has come to share our thoughts on this incredible building. Dolores Manring, the last of many family members who lived in the Belvedere most recently has moved into a retirement facility.

The official mission of the Roseville Historical Society is to promote, preserve and protect Roseville History. Please contact us if you are interested in helping with our mission.
